As Flesh and Blood continues to grow, the systems we use to recognize participation, achievement, and competitive success need to grow with it.
As part of upcoming changes to GEM, we will be making two significant updates to player profiles and rankings:
XP will be paused and removed from public view on September 29, 2026, before returning with a new framework in 2027.
ELO ratings and rankings will be retired on September 29, 2026.
The Future of XP
XP has been part of Flesh and Blood since the earliest days of organized play. For many players, Lifetime XP represents thousands of games played, countless Armory nights, events attended around the world, and milestones earned over years of being part of the Flesh and Blood community.
We know those numbers matter.
Before XP is paused, we will take a final snapshot of Lifetime XP standings, preserving a historical marker of what players achieved under the current system.
XP will then be removed from public view, including Lifetime leaderboards and player profiles, while we prepare the next iteration of XP for launch in 2027.
When XP returns, it will do so under a new framework. Lifetime XP will pick up from where we left off, with players’ existing Lifetime totals carrying forward and the Lifetime leaderboard re-established under the updated system. Alongside this, we will introduce a new seasonal XP leaderboard, giving us better ways to recognize both long-term participation and achievement within each season.
We also recognize what this means in the interim. For a period of time, players who do not feature on the World Tour leaderboard will not have or feature in a public ranking for Flesh and Blood.
This is temporary.
Long term, we want Flesh and Blood to do a better job of recognizing and spotlighting players at every level of the game, from those building their local communities week after week to those competing on the World Tour. Taking XP offline gives us the opportunity to build a system that recognizes and rewards in-store play in the right way, while giving us a stronger foundation to build around for the future.
Retiring ELO
Alongside the XP pause, we will also retire the ELO ranking system.
ELO has served Flesh and Blood through an important period of competitive growth, but it no longer reflects how we want players to measure progression and achievement within organized play.
ELO ratings and rankings will therefore be removed from GEM and will not carry forward into the new system. Players who wish to keep a record of their ELO rating or ranking should take a screenshot or note of their current standing before the retirement date above.
These systems have recorded an important chapter of Flesh and Blood history. We are incredibly grateful to every player who has accumulated XP, chased milestones, climbed ELO rankings, and built their competitive record over the years.
